Shared units

The higher education institutions constituting the Lapland University Consortium produce their support services mainly together. The institutions share e.g. the Library and the Language Centre. As of August 1, 2011, the institutions will have a joint support service centre.

They have also established two institutes that aim to spearhead expertise in their fields in Lapland: the Lapland Institute for Tourism Research and Education in Rovaniemi and the Institute for Northern Culture in Tornio uniquely combine and implement three educational levels and co-operation in research.

Through this co-operation, these higher education institutions are able to develop the quality and the efficiency of their services.

The Library of the Lapland University Consortium

The Library of the Lapland University Consortium comprises the libraries of the Arctic Centre, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lapland and the Lapland Institute for Tourism Research and Education.

The library is open to all, serving primarily the 11,000 students and 1,200 personnel of the universities as well as their partners, regional economy, experts, and the general public.
